How Macushield is made:
"Marigold flowers are harvested and flower petals are dried and grinded and then extraction of oleoresin takes place using hexane as solvent. Solvent is evaporated under high vacuum and low temperature, and Marigold oleoresin is obtained. This concentrate is then treated with alkali and temperature to saponify the Lutein, by breaking the bond between Lutein and the fatty acids, then isomerization of Lutein into Zeaxanthin is performed. After these processes the concentrate is purified by a series of extractions using hexane again to remove unwanted components, as waxes, fatty acids, gums, etc. to obtain the pure crystals of either Lutein, Meso Zeaxanthin or Zeaxanthin, The crystals are then washed, dried & dissolved in sunflower oil."
